Newcastle's attempt to park the bus against Manchester City did not deliver any points and they are under huge pressure to defeat fellow strugglers Brighton at St James' Park.

The Magpies are the biggest of the promoted clubs but they probably did less squad strengthening than the other two and are paying the price.

A much-anticipated takeover might bring an injection of funds in time for the January sales but for now Newcastle look an ordinary side and may be heading for defeat against the Seagulls.
