Bournemouth vs Southampton predictions

Bournemouth have looked far better than one win from their opening five Premier League assignments suggests and they can showcase their talent at home to struggling south-coast rivals Southampton.

The Cherries have endured back-to-back defeats to nil against Chelsea and Liverpool and their only high point came in a 3-2 win away at Everton, when they scored three times after the 87th minute to turn a 2-0 deficit into victory.

Andoni Iraola’s side had recorded score draws with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle prior to that and at the start of this weekend they had had the third most shots in the Premier League behind only Manchester City and Tottenham with 84 efforts from their five games.

There will be plenty of pressure on Bournemouth to regain the winning touch against a Southampton side who have taken only one point from five outings following last season’s promotion from the Championship.

The Saints picked up their first point of the campaign in a 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich last weekend, having suffered defeats to Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Manchester United prior to that.

Southampton have scored only twice and have conceded nine goals, with manager Russell Martin refusing to change his tactics and persisting with a possession-based approach, attempting to play out from the back.

That comes with its flaws without having the right personnel against the elite teams and it is a style that may be punished by Bournemouth, who are one of the best pressing sides in the top flight.

The Cherries should be able to force mistakes from the Saints and in Marcus Tavernier, Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson they have the attacking assets to capitalise on any mishaps.

Bournemouth have lost only four of their last 16 Premier League home games and they should be able to create plenty of chances against a Southampton side who look destined to be embroiled in a relegation battle.

The Saints rank third for expected-goals against while they have also been wasteful in forward areas, scoring only twice from a generated expected-goals figure of 7.1.

So, all things considered, Bournemouth should be hopeful of outscoring the sloppy Saints and backing the hosts -1 goal on the Asian handicap is where the value may lie. Stakes will be returned if Bournemouth win by only one goal while a bigger margin of victory is a winning bet.

Bournemouth vs Southampton bet builder predictions

Bournemouth to win
The Cherries should have too much class for a Southampton side who have taken only one point from five league outings.

Over four cards
There have been five or more cards dished out in four of Bournemouth's last five games.

Antoine Semenyo to have over 1.5 shots on target
Only Erling Haaland and Eberechi Eze have had more shots this season than Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who has had 24 efforts in his five games, and he can hit the target at least twice.
