Aston Villa vs Everton predictions

Everton are facing testing times both on and off the pitch and things will not get any easier for the Toffees when they visit Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

The prospective sale of the club to US billionaire John Textor hangs over those involved with Everton but fans will be more alarmed by the team's awful start to the season.

Sean Dyche will already be feeling the pressure in the Everton dugout this season as his side have lost their opening three Premier League fixtures against Brighton, Tottenham and Bournemouth.

And the defeat to the Cherries before the international break was particularly gut-wrenching as the Toffees led 2-0 up until the 87th minute at Goodison Park but went on to lose 3-2 following a chaotic finish.

The lethargy of the Everton team in the closing minutes of that contest was concerning and they were unsurprisingly booed off the pitch.

The club's summer business was particularly underwhelming. Arrivals such as Tim Iroegbunam, Jake O'Brien and Iliman Ndiaye are not exactly match-winners, while the sale of industrious midfielder Amadou Onana to Saturday's opponents Villa has done them no favours.

Onana scored Villa's first goal of the season in victory over West Ham last month and that was the first of two 2-1 wins either side of a 2-0 loss to Arsenal on home soil.

That left Villa in a decent position heading into the hiatus and they will be eager to record their first home win of the season before a visit to Switzerland to face Young Boys in the new-look Champions League on Tuesday.

This will be the first of five fixtures in 15 days for Unai Emery's men and the former Arsenal boss could choose to rotate personnel.

Ollie Watkins has been passed fit and could start as part of a dangerous front two with the in-form Jhon Duran, who has scored winners against West Ham and Leicester already this term.

Villa have won just four of their last 12 league fixtures at Villa Park and rediscovering their form on home soil will be key if they are to get anywhere close to last season's fourth-placed finish.

They thumped Everton 4-0 in the corresponding fixture last August and even though they have had time in the international break to work on their vulnerabilities, the Toffees are unlikely to spring a surprise.

Villa have not been blowing teams out of the water this season and Emery will be content with a low-scoring victory given the fixture pile-up ahead, so a bet on Villa to win and under 3.5 goals is the way to play it.

Key stat

Everton have lost four of their last five Premier League games at Villa Park.

Aston Villa vs Everton bet builder predictions

Aston Villa to win
Aston Villa have collected six points from a possible nine in the Premier League this season and can see off the deflated Toffees.

Jhon Duran to score at any time
Regardless of whether or not he starts, Jhon Duran is in fine form and looks a good pick to score after netting twice in the league before the international break.

Tim Iroegbunam to be carded
There should be no shortage of determination from Everton's Tim Iroegbunam against his former club but he has committed nine league fouls already this season and could go into the book against an industrious Villa midfield.
