Arsenal vs Man City predictions

Manchester City are alive and kicking in the Champions League after their superb fightback against Club Brugge and they can continue their Premier League resurgence with a victory at Arsenal.

Missing out on the Champions League knockout stage would have been a massive disappointment for City, who have been quarter-finalists or better in each of the last seven seasons.

But Wednesday's experience allowed Pep Guardiola to learn a lot about his players, who delivered some of their best football when the pressure was on.

There is a bigger challenge on the horizon after Real Madrid were announced as City's playoff-round opposition, but, having gone so close to disaster, there was a sheer sense of relief among the players and in the stands.

Moving on from the escape against Club Brugge to perhaps lifting a trophy will be a tough challenge, but City are at least heading in the right direction.

Through November and December Guardiola's side went through an extended spell of finding many different ways to lose, but there are now increasing signs that they are rediscovering the art of winning. And that could be a concerning development for Arsenal, who have precious little room for error in the title race.

The Gunners showed their gritty side at Wolves last Saturday by shrugging aside the harsh dismissal of Myles Lewis-Skelly and digging out a deserved 1-0 win, and they had a satisfactory end to a strong Champions League league phase when a much-changed side triumphed 2-1 at Girona.

However, Mikel Arteta's outfit are undoubtedly a diminished force without Bukayo Saka, whose absence was a key factor in a far from perfect January.

Arsenal's chances of domestic silverware have been limited by a 2-0 loss at home to Newcastle in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final and an FA Cup exit at the hands of Manchester United.

And precious Premier League points were squandered when they drew at Brighton and at home to Aston Villa.

On the plus side Arsenal are unbeaten in 13 Premier League matches and are the only top-flight team with an unbeaten home record, but the standard of their recent performances is unlikely to concern City, who have taken 13 points from their last five top-flight games and are used to winning games in the Gunners' backyard.

The Citizens are not playing at the peak of their powers but their recovery against Club Brugge, following hot on the heels of a come-from-behind 3-1 triumph at home to Chelsea, are signs that they are getting their mojo back.

They were beaten 1-0 in last season's corresponding fixture but won on each of their seven previous trips to the Emirates and look a worthwhile draw-no-bet wager to take the spoils this weekend.
