Arsenal vs Brighton predictions

Arsenal finished a mere two points adrift of Premier League champions Manchester City last season and the early signs suggest that the Gunners will once again push City all the way in the title race.

Mikel Arteta's men have won their opening two league fixtures 2-0 and are one of only two teams yet to concede a goal in the top flight.

The Gunners cruised to victory in their curtain-raiser at home to Wolves but last week's win at Aston Villa was much less comfortable. Arsenal were fortunate to leave the West Midlands with three points and a clean sheet after Villa striker Ollie Watkins squandered a golden chance in the first half before he was denied by a world-class save from David Raya after the break.

Raya and the Arsenal backline will again need to be on their guard on Saturday because visitors Brighton have made a fantastic start to life under their youthful manager Fabian Hurzeler.

Albion have won their first three matches with the 31-year-old German at the helm, the latest coming in midweek when they eased past League One Crawley 4-0 in the EFL Cup second round.

However, an early injury to new signing Matt O'Riley, who will require ankle surgery after being on the receiving end of a rough challenge on his debut, did take some of the shine off that comfortable cup success.

While a home rout of a third-tier side may not hold much weight ahead of a trip to the Emirates, the Seagulls' last-gasp win over Manchester United last Saturday and 3-0 hammering of Everton on the opening weekend of the season certainly do.

Brighton have tallied nine goals in three games this season and have failed to score in only one of their last seven matches in all competitions. They should put the Gunners' blemish-free defensive record under threat, especially as the hosts have posted only the fourth-best expected goals against figure over the first two matchdays despite not being breached.

That said, keeping Arsenal out is another matter entirely. They have scored in each of their last eight top-flight assignments and have failed to find the net in a league game at the Emirates only twice since the beginning of last season.

So with both teams in excellent shape going forward, expect the goals to flow in north London.

Key stat

Brighton have scored in six of their last seven matches in all competitions.

Arsenal vs Brighton team news

Arsenal
Gabriel Jesus is out until after the international break and joins defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney on the sidelines. New signing Mikel Merino will also be denied a debut after picking up an injury in training.

Brighton
Midfield recruit Matt O'Riley requires surgery after injuring his ankle in the midweek win over Crawley but Fabian Hurzeler is hopeful that Ferdi Kadioglu will be able to feature. Fellow summer arrivals Mats Wieffer and Brajan Gruda are doubts and Solly March is still working his way back to full fitness.

Arsenal vs Brighton bet builder predictions

Kai Havertz anytime goalscorer
Havertz found his feet in the second half of last season and has started the new campaign positively, scoring and assisting against Wolves. The 25-year-old has nine goals and seven assists in his last 16 Premier League starts and scored in both meetings with Brighton last term.

Thomas Partey to have one or more shots
Partey found the net with his first shot on target of the season at Villa Park and the Gunners midfielder is not shy of having a pop. Partey has had three shots in two games this term and has had at least one attempt on goal in five of his last seven Premier League starts.

Danny Welbeck to score or assist
Danny Welbeck had six goal contributions in the Premier League last season, but after just two games he is already halfway to matching that tally and he can make an impact against an Arsenal side he both scored and assisted against for Brighton in a 2022/23 League Cup tie.
