Match preview
The wind hasn't quite been taken out of Fulham's sails over the last couple of weeks but the tide has definitely turned in their fight to stay up.
Scott Parker seemed to be successfully charting a course for Premier League survival, but that quest has hit the rocks and Arsenal could leave them looking marooned.
Three days after a clinical 4-0 demolition of Slavia Prague, which in turn followed a decent 3-0 romp at Sheffield United in the league, the Gunners can complete a hat-trick of wins to nil.
Fulham's race seems to have been run after a gutsy spell from the turn of the year when they were proving hard to beat. By the time they pulled off a magnificent 1-0 win at Liverpool on March 7 they were out of the bottom three.
Since then, however, they have suffered four straight losses, a predictable enough one at home against Manchester City but then three real kicks in the teeth at the hands of mid-table Leeds, Aston Villa and Wolves. They would have hoped for a point or more from all three of those but ended up with nothing.
Arsenal, in contrast, could be anything. Who knew at the start of the season, for example, that Granit Xhaka would be a left-back, Calum Chambers would be back in the mix or that 19-year-old Bakayo Saka would be talked up as the next club captain. Perhaps, almost by accident, Arteta is finding solutions where they hadn't been envisaged.
It would be grossly dangerous to judge the Gunners on their last two results, but Fulham are brittle at the moment and if Arsenal can strike early they can win this derby at their leisure.
Key stat
Fulham have scored only five goals in their last nine matches, and never more than once in any of those games.
