2024-25 Premier League winner prediction

Jurgen Klopp won the Premier League once in nine seasons as Liverpool manager but his successor Arne Slot is 1-4 to match Klopp's tally of league titles at the first attempt.

The former Feyenoord boss has won 23 of his first 27 matches in all competitions and it would be a major shock if Liverpool fail to beat ailing rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

If Arsenal win at Brighton on Saturday evening, the Reds' lead would be down to three points by the time they kick off against the Red Devils.

However, they would still have two games in hand on the Gunners, whose chances of overhauling the leaders have been significantly reduced by injury to key man Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal won 16 of their last 18 Premier League matches last term, taking the title race down to the final day, but it is hard to see them going on a similar run given the strength of the division this season.

Mikel Arteta's men were Racing Post Sport's tip for the title at the start of term, but they let slip leads in costly draws with Brighton, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in the autumn and lost 2-0 at Bournemouth after William Saliba's first-half red card.

Last month's draws with Fulham and Everton, who managed just four shots at goal between them, also felt like missed opportunities and Arsenal look likely to finish as runners-up for the third season running.

Chelsea briefly leapfrogged the Gunners in the title betting before Christmas but Enzo Maresca's men have picked up just one point from their last three games against Everton, Fulham and Ipswich.

The Blues' 2025 schedule includes away fixtures to eight of the top ten so Arsenal look the team to back to chase home Liverpool in the title race.

At the midway point of the season Nottingham Forest – 1,000-1 shots ante-post – are third in the table while Bournemouth and Fulham are also exceeding expectations.

Forest inflicted Liverpool's only league defeat, winning 1-0 at Anfield in September, while the Cherries have beaten Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham at home before thumping Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford last month.

The travails of City, Spurs and United provide further proof of the increased competitiveness of the top flight.

The Citizens, who went off at 6-4 to win their seventh title in eight years, are out to 40-1 after a remarkable collapse following Ballon d'Or winner Rodri's knee injury against Arsenal in September.

Before last weekend's 2-0 win at Leicester, who hit the woodwork twice, City had lost nine of their previous 13 games in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola's men are 14 points behind Liverpool, having played a game more than the Reds, and they still have work to do to avoid an ignominious early exit from the Champions League.

The fact that Aston Villa are fifth in the Champions League standings but only ninth in the Premier League underlines the depth of talent in the English top flight this term.

That should benefit Liverpool, who have 45 points on the board after swaggering through two potentially tricky away trips either side of Christmas, thrashing Tottenham 6-3 and West Ham 5-0.

The Reds have been far from perfect defensively in recent weeks but an attacking unit inspired by Mohamed Salah is averaging 2.5 goals per game.

Eight of Liverpool's last ten home matches are against bottom-half teams and the title favourites have a decent margin for error given that their rivals should continue to take points off each other.
