Plzen primed to seize the initiative over Steaua
Bucharest boys look far from convincing
Third qualifying round first legs
from 6pm Tuesday
Plzen have gone back to club hero Pavel Vrba to rekindle the glory days and it might be worth backing Viktoria to get something from their Champions League third qualifying-round trip to the National Stadium in Bucharest.
Five-time Czech coach of the year Vrba was the man who guided Plzen to league glory twice before having a stab at the national job, and they are delighted to see him back.
Not only has Vrba returned but he has also brought with him such stars as Daniel Koler, Ales Cerma and Diego Zuvilic.
Runners-up in the Czech League last season, they look to be in a good place under Vrba and shouldn’t be fazed by their trip to Bucharest to take on Steaua.
Steaua, who also finished second in their domestic competition, are two unconvincing games into their new campaign.
It took a 90th-minute goal for Viorel Tanase’s men to beat Voluntari 2-1 and they needed Timisoara to go down to ten men before Harlem Gnohere scored the only goal in a tight 1-0 success.
