Newcastle United vs Brentford predictions
There is little to commend Brentford in terms of scheduling or form for this trip to Tyneside, yet there's enough inconsistency about Newcastle to suggest this isn't quite a done deal.
The fixture certainly comes at a decent time for Newcastle, who eased past Leicester 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, whereas Brentford had to wait until Sunday night before they went into battle with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The extra 24 hours will have helped the Toon and not only do Brentford's squad have the travelling ordeal but their away record is awful, matched only by that of Southampton.
The Bees have played eight away games in the Premier League this season and taken just one point from a possible 24 courtesy of a 0-0 draw at Everton.
And so to the flip side of the argument. Six of those losses have come at teams in the top ten and it's worth bearing in mind that Newcastle are hardly a model of consistency.
They have won half of their eight home games in the league, they have won only three of their last 12 Premier League assignments, and in that run was a 4-2 loss at Brentford the weekend before last.
Both Eddie Howe and Thomas Frank are within touching distance of a rare Wembley day out and there are class acts in both sides.
In Alexander Isak and Bryan Mbeumo, for example, this match is being graced by two of this season's hottest strikers.
Brentford's games are full of goals - just three of their 16 have produced two or fewer - and it's hard to see this match being a dull affair. It wasn't at the Gtech in the league 11 days ago and more of that is anticipated.
Newcastle are underperforming often enough this season to sit in the bottom half of the table which is way below expectation and given the way they blow hot or cold, they make no great appeal at a short price.
Expect goals and expect them at both ends.
Key stat
Both teams have found the net in 15 of Brentford's last 16 matches in all competitions
