Wales vs Iceland predictions
Wales were at a low ebb after June's friendly results, a 0-0 draw against Gibraltar and a 4-0 defeat to Slovakia which signalled the end of Rob Page's time as manager.
However, new boss Craig Bellamy has overseen a solid Nations League campaign, becoming the first Wales manager to remain unbeaten in his first five matches.
Bellamy enjoyed a slice of luck in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Group B4 leaders Turkey, who had 25 shots to Wales's four and hit the post with an 89th-minute penalty.
Turkey remain on course for automatic promotion to League A, assuming they avoid a slip-up against a Montenegro side who have lost five out of five.
But Wales have a good opportunity to seal a promotion playoff spot by beating Iceland in Cardiff.
Bellamy's men had to dig in for their point against Turkey but he wants Wales to play positively and home advantage should help them claim maximum points on matchday six.
They created plenty of chances in their opening Nations League game, another 0-0 draw with the Turks, and scored twice in the first three minutes of September's 2-1 win in Montenegro.
Another fast start gave them a 2-0 lead inside 29 minutes in Iceland last month, thanks to goals from in-form wingers Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson, but their hosts rallied to claim a 2-2 draw.
Wales will certainly not underestimate the threat of their visitors, who would pinch second place in the group if they win in Cardiff.
A lengthy injury list is hampering Bellamy's plans and the absence of captain Aaron Ramsey and striker Kieffer Moore is particularly significant.
Wales are unlikely to cut loose, having scored only five goals in their last eight internationals, but Iceland's defensive deficiencies were exposed in their 3-1 and 4-2 losses to Turkey.
Wilson's first-half penalty proved decisive in a 1-0 win over Montenegro in Wales's last home fixture, although the visitors failed to register a shot on target.
Leeds centre-back Joe Rodon personified the Welsh defensive grit in Turkey last time out and they can grind out a crucial home win against Iceland.

Centre-back Joe Rodon will be assessed after a clash of heads with teammate Mark Harris during the Turkey game. Aaron Ramsey, Kieffer Moore, Nathan Broadhead, Wes Burns, Owen Beck, Ollie Cooper and Rabbi Matondo are injured.
Iceland
Left-back Logi Tomasson is suspended so Birmingham's Alfons Sampsted could start in defence. Former Cardiff star Aron Gunnarsson is a major doubt.
