Thursday's Nations League predictions

Despite making the semi-finals of Euro 2020, Denmark were disappointing in Germany this summer, scraping through their section after drawing all three of their group games before being knocked out by the hosts in the last 16.

That performance cost Kasper Hjulmand his job and while caretaker boss Lars Knudsen will be dreaming of a winning start, he is far from guaranteed to get one against a Switzerland side who shone at Euro 2024.

The Swiss beat Hungary in their opener then drew with Scotland and, impressively, Germany before dominating Italy to win 2-0 in the round of 16.

They took England to penalties in the quarter-finals and a repeat of any of those last three performances would cause Denmark all sorts of problems in Copenhagen.

The Danes are without key defenders Simon Kjaer and Andreas Christensen as well as star striker Rasmus Hojlund and are unlikely to have enough to defeat a strong Switzerland side featuring Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji and Breel Embolo.

The March meeting between the pair finished level, however, so get your stakes back if that outcome is repeated by backing the Swiss draw no bet.

Reigning Nations League champions Spain also get their campaign underway at the same time and should have too much for Serbia in Belgrade.

Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams grabbed most of the headlines as La Roja were crowned Euro 2024 champions over the summer, meaning Dani Olmo's exceptional performances flew slightly under the radar.

Olmo scored three goals and provided two assists in Germany at an average of a goal involvement every 86.2 minutes while averaging 2.8 shots per game.

He is a livewire who will arrive in Serbia in fine form, having wasted no time in settling in at Barcelona, bagging two goals in as many games for his new club, so take him to continue his hot streak in Belgrade.
