Saturday's Nations League predictions

Euro 2024 semi-finalists Netherlands begin their Nations League campaign with a very winnable home match against Bosnia, who seem likely to be punching above their weight in the top tier of the competition.

The Dragons earned promotion to League A last time around but, given they took only nine points – six of which came against Liechtenstein, who lost to San Marino on Thursday – from a possible 30 in Euro 2024 qualifying, they could be in for a rude awakening in Eindhoven.

Bosnia claimed only two draws when they were last in the top tier of the Nations League and have lost six games on the spin, suggesting the Dutch, who have won their last four home matches without conceding, can claim three points with a degree of comfort.

However, they may not run away with things entirely as Bosnia conceded only once to Italy in their last match and three times against England the time before.

The Netherlands boast an array of attacking talent, but the majority of their forwards have endured slow starts to the campaign. Wout Weghorst, Donyell Malen, Cody Gakpo and Brian Brobbey have all struggled for playing time while Xavi Simons and Joshua Zirkzee are yet to really find their shooting boots.

With than in mind, backing an Oranje win and under 3.5 goals, a bet which has landed in each of their last three victories, looks the logical approach.

Group rivals Germany are certainly not lacking in-form forwards ahead of their Nations League campaign and can open with a victory over Hungary.

Die Mannschaft ran Euro 2024 winners Spain closer than anybody else at this summer's finals and the signs were clear for all to see that Julian Nagelsmann's young side could become a leading force very soon.

Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala, 21, will be front and centre for the Germans in the coming years and the young star has already impressed on the international stage, netting three goals at the Euros.

One of those came against the Magyars in the group stage and Musiala could feed his appetite for finding the net against Hungary once again in Dusseldorf.

Ukraine's League B encounter with Albania could be another contest in which goals are in plentiful supply.

Both sides boast strong attacks – opposing strikers Roman Yaremchuk and Rey Manaj enjoyed fruitful 2023-24 campaigns in particular – but they can leave a lot to be desired at the back.

Ukraine's defence looked all at sea in their opening 3-0 lost to Romania at Euro 2024 while Albania's only clean sheet in their last seven matches came against minnows Liechtenstein.

Both teams have scored in nine of the visitors' last 12 away games and it could pay to back the same outcome in Prague.
