Sunday's Nations League predictions

Despite reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2024 this summer, World Cup runners-up France flattered to deceive throughout the finals, scraping through matches without offering much attacking intent.

It was more of the same for Les Bleus on Friday, when they were beaten 3-1 by Italy in their opening Nations League assignment, so Didier Deschamps will be keen for his side to bounce back against Belgium, who France defeated 1-0 in the last 16 at the Euros.

For all their world-class talent in every department, goalscoring has been a real issue for France, who have failed to score more than one goal in any of their last eight matches.

However, they should get plenty of chances to rectify that against Belgium, who have kept only one clean sheet in their last ten Nations League matches.

With Jan Vertonghen joining his former central defensive partner Toby Alderweireld in retirement, the Red Devils’ rearguard lacks experience and could be exposed by France with regularity.

In-form PSG starlet Bradley Barcola could be the chief benefactor of Belgium’s shakiness at the back.

The winger scored after just 13 seconds against the Italians and has netted four goals in three games for PSG to start the season, so bet365's 100-30 that he makes his mark against the Red Devils look generous.

Italy will be full of confidence following their win over the French and should carry that impetus into their clash with Israel, who opened their campaign with a 3-1 loss to Belgium.

The Azzurri were poor at this summer's Euros, but Luciano Spalletti’s tactics were always going to take a while to get used to and his players played much better against France.

Israel have lost three of their last four matches, shipping a combined ten goals in those defeats, so an improving Italy may have plenty of joy in front of goal in Budapest.
