Iceland vs Wales predictions

Wales are showing positive signs at the start of the Craig Bellamy era, taking four points from two Nations League games, and they can overcome a few injury issues to defeat Iceland in Reykjavik.

Bellamy has been in charge for a shade over three months and his team are already playing with the enthusiasm and desire which was evident throughout his playing career.

The 45-year-old's first match at the helm, at home to Euro 2024 quarter-finalists Turkey, was a far from straightforward assignment.

However, Wales were largely dominant in a lively 0-0 draw and there was a clear identity to their playing style which featured high energy, a high press and some crisp passing and movement.

Wales won the shot count 15 to five against Turkey and might have felt short-changed by the result.

They dusted themselves down, following up with a 2-1 victory away to Montenegro in atrocious conditions just three days later.

Bellamy will be looking for further improvements in the second batch of Group B4 matches even though his plans have been disrupted by the absences of key trio Dan James, Ethan Ampadu and Aaron Ramsey.

On the plus side, Wales are boosted by the superb recent performances of star attacker Brennan Johnson, who has netted in each of his last six Tottenham appearances.

Wales need to be mindful of Iceland's recent progress as the hosts are just a point worse off than their visitors after winning 2-0 at home to Montenegro and losing 3-1 away to Turkey.

Age Hareide's side have won five of their eight matches this year, including a deserved 1-0 summer success over England at Wembley, and they carry a threat with former Everton attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson pulling the strings and Gent striker Andri Gudjohnsen likely to lead the line.

Gudjohnsen has scored six goals in 26 caps but Iceland have less quality and depth in defensive areas and have kept only one clean sheet in their last six competitive games.

Overall, an entertaining, evenly balanced contest can be expected, but Wales look the more polished side and are worth a wager on the draw no bet.
