Saturday's National League football predictions

Southend’s impressive 2-0 win over Eastleigh on Tuesday night could be just the boost the Shrimpers required.

Kevin Maher’s side are tucked away in mid-table after drawing four of their first seven matches and need to put a run of wins together in order to fulfil their pre-season hopes of challenging for promotion.

Next up for the Shrimpers are Sutton, who have struggled since their relegation to the National League last season with just two wins from their opening eight league games.

Steve Morison’s side are without a win in five and have lost their last three, conceding eight goals and netting just once in those losses.

Southend could therefore have a golden chance to record consecutive victories and they look decent value at a shade of odds-on.

Leaders Gateshead also look a worthwhile punt to continue their fine start to the season with victory at Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Tynesiders have won five and drawn two of their opening seven fixtures, including statement wins over promotion rivals Eastleigh and Barnet in their past two matches, and could prove too strong for the Daggers.

Rob Elliot’s team won ten times on their travels last term and have taken five points from three away games this season. Another three points could be in the offing for Gateshead at Victoria Road on Saturday.

Hosts Dagenham beat struggling Sutton on Tuesday but that is their only success five outings.
