Liverpool 1 Manchester City 1 - City 28-1 for treble after Wembley shootout win
Reds 3-1 to end their long wait for a Premier League title
Manchester City held off Liverpool by a narrow margin in last season’s Premier League title race and it was a similar story in the Community Shield at Wembley as Pep Guardiola’s treble winners beat the Reds 5-4 on penalties.
The game finished 1-1 after Liverpool defender Joel Matip equalised Raheem Sterling’s 12th-minute opener for City. Sterling had been 5-1 to score first against his former club.
The contest was settled by a shootout and Claudio Bravo’s save from Georginio Wijnaldum sealed another piece of silverware for the Citizens, who converted all five of their spot-kicks.
The teams are again expected to dominate the Premier League race with champions City 8-15 to finish top and Liverpool 3-1 to end their long wait for a league title.
There is a big jump in the betting to Tottenham at 20-1 while Chelsea and Manchester United are both 40-1 to win the league and Arsenal are as big as 66-1.
BoyleSports rate the City-Liverpool reverse forecast at 4-9 and Guardiola’s men are 28-1 with Sky Bet for another domestic treble and 150-1 to win the quadruple, including the Champions League.
Liverpool are 1-6 to beat Norwich in their opening league game at Anfield on Friday night while City are 1-4 to win at West Ham on Saturday.
