Wales vs Kazakhstan predictions
A change of manager has breathed new life into the Dragons and Wales can maintain their Craig Bellamy bounce by comfortably beating Kazakhstan in their opening World Cup qualifying clash in Cardiff.
Wales ended a 64-year absence from World Cups with their participation at Qatar 2022 but they are equally keen to earn a place at next summer's expanded tournament and there is a new buzz around the place with Bellamy calling the shots.
After failing to get out of the group stage at Qatar 2022, Wales were dealt another major blow when Gareth Bale announced his retirement from club and international football.
The Dragons battled on without their talisman but were unsuccessful in their attempt to qualify for Euro 2024 and that prompted a change in the dugout with Rob Page moved aside and Bellamy taking his place at the helm.
Bellamy inherited a tough situation with the Wales team seemingly going through a transitional phase but he demanded high standards and got a fantastic response from the players who excelled throughout the autumn Nations League campaign.
Wales were unbeaten in their six matches and sealed first place and automatic promotion after finishing a point above a highly-rated Turkey team which had reached the quarter-finals at Euro 2024.
The Welsh wrapped up their Nations League campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory at home to Iceland which was achieved despite conceding the opening goal.
After making so much progress in such a short space of time, Wales could have done without the recent four-month break and they are embarking on a new campaign without a sizeable contingent of injured players, including experienced midfielder Aaron Ramsey and influential duo Ethan Ampadu and Harry Wilson.
However, they seem likely to stick to the same high-tempo style and their vibrant football should help them sweep aside Kazakhstan, who are the fourth seeds in a section featuring Belgium, North Macedonia and Liechtenstein.
The Kazakhs won six games during their failed bid to reach Euro 2024, but their performances have deteriorated dramatically in recent times.
They have lost seven of their last eight competitive matches, including Nations League reverses away to Slovenia (3-0), Austria (4-0) and Norway (5-0), and are unlikely to seriously trouble Wales, who can register a high-scoring success.
