New England manager Thomas Tuchel 33-1 to deliver World Cup and Euro 2028 glory
The German tactician has worked at some of Europe's top clubs and made a stunning impact after arriving at Chelsea in 2021.
Thomas Tuchel will start his new job as England manager on January 1 and Ladbrokes make him 7-4 to win a major trophy with the Three Lions.
Tuchel has strong pedigree in that regard, claiming nine major trophies during his spells in charge of Borussia Dortmund, Paris St-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
His career highlights include a domestic treble with PSG in 2019-20 and a Champions League triumph with Chelsea in 2021, when they beat Pep Guardiola's Manchester City 1-0 in the final.
Guardiola briefly went favourite for the England job this week before the FA unveiled Tuchel, who had also been prominent in the next Manchester United manager market, on Wednesday.
The German made an immediate impact at Chelsea, lifting the Champions League trophy just four months after taking over at Stamford Bridge, and England are 7-1 to end their silverware drought at the 2026 World Cup.
Hills and Ladbrokes offer 33-1 that Tuchel wins the next World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada, as well as Euro 2028, which takes place in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
He is 2-1 with Hills to triumph at either of the next two major tournaments and 12-1 to leave his position before the 2026 World Cup.
Gareth Southgate, Tuchel's predecessor as England manager, was often criticised for not getting the best out of a hugely talented group of attacking players.
However, last week's dismal Wembley defeat against Greece, in which interim boss Lee Carsley crammed Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden into his starting 11, was a reminder of the importance of balance.
Tuchel is renowned as a superb tactician and a strong, if at times divisive, personality. He has coached some of Europe's biggest clubs and was at Chelsea during the tumultuous period when owner Roman Abramovich's assets were frozen by the UK government.
His experiences of high-pressure roles, particularly at Chelsea, PSG and Bayern, should prepare him for the England hotseat but his football is likely to be pragmatic rather than expansive and crowd-pleasing.
Tuchel's initial success at Chelsea was based on defensive solidity. The Blues conceded just two goals in his first 14 matches including wins to nil against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool and Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid (twice).
That honeymoon period continued with three wins out of three against Guardiola's City at the end of the 2020-21 campaign as well as a Champions League semi-final victory over Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid.
After England's agonising final defeats under Southgate at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, Three Lions fans will be hoping that Tuchel brings the same golden touch in big games to his new job.
