England Women vs South Africa Women predictions

England manager Sarina Wiegman is determined to learn plenty from the four friendlies the Lionesses face before they defend their European Championship crown in Switzerland next summer.

Friday's 4-3 defeat to Germany at Wembley means big improvements are expected when they face what looks an easier game against South Africa in Coventry on Tuesday evening.

The Germans, who were beaten in the Euros final the last time they played under the arch, stormed to a three-goal lead in the first half an hour, leaving England shell-shocked. But Wiegman's side should have fewer problems against South Africa, even if their opponents reached the round of 16 at last year's World Cup.

A draw with Argentina and a win over Italy were not as impressive as they would look in the men's game, but Sweden needed a last-minute goal to beat South Africa in a group game, so odds of 55-1 about them winning on Tuesday look unfairly dismissive.

That said, South Africa lost 5-0 against Denmark on Friday and England should bounce back, even though Wiegman says she is going to ring the changes for this international friendly clash.

Those alterations may not involve Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway, who fielded questions at Monday's press conference and scored two of Friday's goals.

Stanway has notched four times in seven Frauen Bundesliga games this season and also in Euros qualifying outings against France and Ireland, so she could add to her international tally.
