Galway should dominate Drogheda in basement battle
Drogheda have scored twice in ten league games
The Eir Sport cameras are at Richmond Park on Friday night when St Patrick’s Athletic attempt to continue their rally at home to Bray Wanderers, whose chairman stepped down on Wednesday evening.
It is hard to be confident about the morale of the Bray players considering their cash problems. But it is also difficult to make much of a case for backing Pat’s at the available prices, given that they have found winning so difficult this season. Bray will fancy their chance.
Like Pat’s, Galway United and Drogheda United are also struggling and will be viewing their Eamonn Deacy Park joust as a must-win match. Galway should dominate the game and make plenty of appeal at 8-11.
They scored three goals in their last game and if they can build on that offensively they can stay up. Drogheda are a poor side, have lost key players and since these sides last met, the Boynesiders have played ten league games, scoring just twice.
In Friday night’s other game, Bohemians host Derry City. Derry have been a mess at the back of late and may struggle with Vinny Corcoran but they still deserve to be pretty strong favourites.
Neither Limerick nor Sligo could be deemed safe and they meet at the Markets Field. It is hard to know where Sligo’s goals are going to come from, but Limerick have been notably weak defensively under Neil McDonald.
Dundalk face Shamrock Rovers on Sunday and, no doubt on a bit of a downer after losing in extra-time to Rosenborg, they look vulnerable odds-on favourites.
