Sunday European football predictions

Claudio Ranieri begins his third spell in charge of Roma this weekend but his latest tenure is set to start with a baptism of fire against Serie A pacesetters Napoli.

Daniele De Rossi was sacked by Roma in September and his replacement Ivan Juric did not even last two months and was dismissed before the international break.

Ranieri inherits a Roma side who started the weekend in 12th spot with just three league wins to their name.

They have won just one of their last five fixtures and that streak was bookended by a 5-1 loss to Fiorentina and a 3-2 defeat to Bologna, so an immediate turnaround looks unlikely.

Napoli have posted eight wins in 12 league matches and remain at the summit despite a tricky run of fixtures, featuring a 2-0 win over Milan, a 3-0 loss to Atalanta and a 1-1 draw with Inter.

This looks a more straightforward assignment and Napoli should ease to victory, having won six of their last eight matches.

Another manager starting his tenure on Sunday is Jorge Sampaoli, who begins life at Rennes with a visit to Lille.

But new-manager bounce also looks unlikely for Rennes, who have lost six of their 11 league fixtures.

They have also been dealt a blow with first-team defender Alidu Seidu picking up a knock during the international break and they look worth opposing.

Lille are on a ten-game unbeaten run in all competitions and that streak has featured games against Real Madrid, Monaco, Juventus and Nice, so they are not to be taken lightly.

Jonathan David is among the division's leading scorers with seven goals and his Lille side look a decent pick.
