Sunday European football predictions

Jorge Sampaoli has been in charge at Rennes for just a matter of weeks but he oversaw the team's best performance of the season last Saturday as they ran out 5-0 winners against St-Etienne.

To put things into perspective, Rennes scored nearly a third of their 18 league goals this season in that one game and it followed a respectable 1-0 defeat to Lille in Sampaoli's first match in charge.

From getting the team's forwards to gel to getting a tune out of young Welsh midfielder Jordan James last time out, Sampaoli is already doing a decent job at Rennes, who are a value bet to beat Nantes on Sunday.

Nantes held PSG to a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes last Saturday but they were thoroughly outplayed, allowing their opponents 24 shots, ten of which were on target, and 85 per cent of the ball.

Nantes have won just two of their 13 league fixtures this season and look there to be opposed.

Wolfsburg are quietly but confidently going about their business in the Bundesliga and they extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions with a 3-0 win over Hoffenheim in the German Cup on Wednesday.

One player who has started to impress for the team is Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura, who scored twice in the 5-1 win over Leipzig last time out.

Amoura has netted four goals and laid on five assists in the Bundesliga this term and is worth backing to either score or set up a goal at home to Mainz.
