Sunday's European football predictions

Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund

Bundesliga pair Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund are separated by just a single point and the mid-table foes may conjure up an entertaining encounter on Sunday.

Dortmund are already 14 points adrift of league leaders Bayern Munich after winning just six of their 14 league matches and they should expect a thorough examination from Wolfsburg, who are firmly on the up following five wins in their last six games.

The Wolves have been involved in a number of high-scoring clashes this term, with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals landing in four of their last five Bundesliga outings.

Dortmund have conceded in their last four, meanwhile, and attacks should be on top at the Volkswagen Arena.

Atalanta vs Empoli

Few sides in Europe are in as rich a vein of form as Atalanta, who have won 11 of their last 12 games and are battling it out with Napoli and Italian champions Inter at the top of Serie A.

Charles de Ketelaere has been at the heart of La Dea's success this season, scoring eight goals and laying on another nine for his teammates in 19 starts in all competitions.

The Belgian could be key to unlocking a stout Empoli defence at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.

Leganes vs Villarreal

Villarreal are without a win in six games but their underlying numbers suggest an overdue victory may not be too far away.

The Yellow Submarine are still in the mix for European qualification and they will be boosted by the return of Dani Parejo, Kiko Femenia and Alex Baena for their trip to Leganes.

The hosts possess the lowest expected-goals figure in La Liga this season – 11.7 from 17 games – and may find themselves outclassed.
