Saturday European football predictions

Bruno Genesio is enjoying a terrific first season in charge of Lille but there is a big question mark hanging over one of the club's star players.

Key forward Jonathan David, signed from Gent in 2020, has been a prolific scorer in Ligue 1 since his move to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy but looks particularly determined to show his worth as the domestic season approaches the halfway stage.

David's contract expires in June this year and, with no confirmation of an extension, he continues to be linked with a big move away.

And, eager to capitalise on his current situation, the Canadian is a man in form.

David tops the Ligue 1 scoring charts with 11 goals in 15 matches, while he has scored four times in six games in the Champions League.

On Saturday, Lille face a Nantes side who shipped four times against Brest in their final game of 2024 and David is overpriced to find the net.

Fiorentina have defied expectations to push for the top four in Serie A this season but they could be put in their place by Napoli on Saturday.

Antonio Conte is no stranger to a Serie A title race and his Partenopei side flourished in a busy December, winning four of their five league assignments.

They are keeping pace with Atalanta and Inter at the summit and unlike those around them, it has been defensive resilience which has paved the way for a title challenge with just 12 goals shipped in 18 league matches.

Fiorentina finished last year winless in their final four matches, losing to Bologna and Udinese in Serie A, and they should be opposed at home to Napoli.
