Saturday European football predictions

An eyecatching Champions League clash with Barcelona is on the cards for Monaco on Thursday but their Ligue 1 duties resume on Saturday with a visit to lowly Auxerre.

Monaco have started the season strongly and can keep the pressure on early pacesetters PSG and Marseille when they visit the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps.

They have claimed a respectable seven points from their opening three contests and it has not been the easiest of starts, either, with St-Etienne, Lyon and Lens having opposed them before the international break.

Adi Hutter may be tempted to rotate with one eye on the Champions League but he has plenty of options, especially in the final third with Folarin Balogun competing for a starting spot with Breel Embolo.

Youngster Eliesse Ben Seghir, meanwhile, continues to impress on the flank and they should be far too strong for the hosts, who have lost their last two games against Nantes and Le Havre.

Matching last season's top-two finish was never going to be easy but Stuttgart have truly stumbled out of the blocks in this season's Bundesliga, losing to Freiburg and drawing with Mainz before the international break.

The loss of key players such Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy are starting to be felt and their season does not get any easier this week with a visit to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Borussia Monchengladbach could therefore be worthy of support when these sides square up at Borussia-Park.

Gladbach pushed defending champions Bayer Leverkusen close in an opening 3-2 defeat before beating Bochum 2-0 and they are worth backing draw no bet.
