Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid predictions

Real Madrid welcome rivals Atletico Madrid to the Bernabeu in the continent's standout fixture this weekend, with just one point separating La Liga's top two going into Saturday's encounter.

Looking to defend their title, Los Blancos have the narrow advantage at La Liga's summit, but they have not always been convincing this season, settling for a playoff berth in the Champions League and losing 5-2 to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup just last month.

Their most recent league match ended in a 1-0 defeat to Espanyol as Carlo Ancelotti's ultra-attacking system faltered and it is tough to work out the best way for them to approach this contest.

On the one hand, a top-heavy set-up could be needed to break down an Atleti defence which has shipped just 14 league goals, but that could leave Real vulnerable to razor-sharp forwards Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann.

Atletico's defensive resilience has led them to wins over PSG, Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen this season and they are worth chancing in the draw-no-bet market against their local rivals.

Wolfsburg have lost their footing in the Bundesliga with just two wins in their last seven games and they were held to a draw by Holstein Kiel in their previous home contest.

Oppose them against title-chasing Bayer Leverkusen, who have won three games on the spin and have just one Bundesliga defeat to their name this season.

Leverkusen have no shortage of quality in attack with Patrik Schick, Florian Wirtz and Victor Boniface scoring 30 league goals between them, so they should comfortably find a way to victory.
