Match preview

Defeat to rivals Sevilla has left Real Betis in no-man's land in La Liga but they can buy their under-fire manager some more time in the dugout by beating travel-sick Granada.

Former Espanyol boss Rubi's position at Betis has grown more precarious in recent months and he did not cover himself in glory in El Gran Derbi.

Betis put in a solid defensive performance to keep the game goalless at the break but a reluctance to introduce key attacking outlets Joaquin and Loren Moron earlier in the game meant the visitors faded and Sevilla prevailed 2-0.

That result means Betis have now gone seven matches on the road without a win in Spain's top flight but they are far more comfortable at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

They have claimed the scalps of Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid at their Andalusian home since November, having also run Atletico Madrid and Barcelona close in their own backyard.

In Joaquin and Nabil Fekir, they have two creative sparks in the final third and scoring goals has seldom been an issue this season - their tally of 38 is only three fewer than Champions League-chasing Sevilla.

Defensive errors have cost them but visitors Granada could struggle to capitalise.

They are fresh from a big home win over Getafe, having trailed 1-0 for 50 minutes in that contest, but nine of their 12 league wins this term have come at Los Carmenes, while they have struggled away from home.

They have lost eight of their ten matches on the road in La Liga and their only three wins were against lowly Espanyol, Celta Vigo and Osasuna.

Punters can expect Real Betis to put up more of a fight, especially considering Rubi may look to shuffle the pack and even bench Borja Iglesias, who looked on a different wavelength from the rest of the team against Sevilla.

Granada still look on course to exceed expectations in La Liga this season and perhaps even achieve a European berth but if they do so it will be down to their home performances rather than what they have done on their travels.

Darwin Machis is their top scorer in the league with only six goals this term and a lack of ruthlessness in the attacking third makes them worth opposing against top-heavy Betis.

Key stat

Granada have lost eight of their last ten away matches in La Liga.
