Tottenham vs AZ Alkmaar predictions
Ange Postecoglou came under plenty of scrutiny after his side let a two-goal lead slip at Brighton to lose 3-2 prior to the most recent international break, but the Australian quickly alleviated any pressure by masterminding Spurs' 4-1 rout of London rivals West Ham last Saturday.
Tottenham will be lifted by that impressive performance – the scoreline somewhat flattered the Hammers – and should have no issues in extending their perfect start in the Europa League when welcoming AZ Alkmaar to north London.
The visitors are in the midst of their worst run for 22 years, with their 2-1 loss to Eredivisie leaders PSV on Saturday marking their fourth defeat on the spin, and they have won just two of their last eight matches in the Europa League.
AZ have failed to score in each of their last two away games and it is difficult to envisage them causing too many problems for a solid Spurs side whose only home loss this term came in a narrow 1-0 defeat to rivals Arsenal.
The Lilywhites have won their other four home matches this season and, given each of those victories came by at least a two-goal margin, it could pay to back them on the handicap against Alkmaar.
It is a perfect seven wins from as many Europa League games for Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – each of those victories has also been by at least two goals, with the last six coming to nil – and Postecoglou's side should dispatch the visitors with relative ease.
Key stat
Spurs have won by at least two goals in all seven of their Europa League matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
