Rangers vs Lyon predictions
The Rangers fans might only just be picking themselves up off the floor in light of Celtic's 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday , but the Light Blues could be heading for their own fall against Lyon.
Both began their Europa League campaigns with 2-0 wins, the Gers triumphing in Malmo and Les Gones beating Olympiakos.
After an uncertain summer, things are slowly improving for Rangers, winning their last four in all competitions without conceding.
However, Sunday's 1-0 victory against Hibernian included a missed penalty for the Edinburgh outfit, and Philippe Clement's post-match description of their performance as "not incredible" was hardly a ringing endorsement.
Clement qualified his comments by acknowledging the difficulty of following up a midweek victory in Europe, especially an away one, but facing Lyon represents a step up in quality.
Les Gones went from relegation candidates to European qualification last season under Pierre Sage, who, after Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso departed, was installed as interim boss in November 2023 and did enough to be appointed until the summer before signing on permanently in July.
An eventful transfer window led to a slow start but Les Gones have improved to lose just one of their last five, most recently scraping past Toulouse 2-1 on Sunday.
After losing their Champions League qualifier to Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden Park, this will be Rangers' first European home game since the summer renovations at Ibrox.
Despite Parkhead's famous atmosphere, Celtic arguably suffered in the din of Dortmund. The Rangers fans will look to produce something similar, but Lyon will not be intimidated.
Sage's side plays in front of a chaotic home crowd on at least a fortnightly basis. Despite being the visitors, they can feed off the home supporters' passion and grab a big win in Glasgow.
