Malmo vs Rangers predictions
Rangers were Europa League runners-up three seasons ago and they can make a strong start to this season's league phase by defeating Malmo at Eleda Stadion.
It has been a mixed start to term for the Light Blues, who are third in the Scottish Premiership and five points adrift of Celtic and Aberdeen at the top.
Rangers' hopes of earning a place in the Champions League were also dashed at the first hurdle with a 3-1 aggregate loss to Dynamo Kyiv in the third qualifying round.
Brazilian left-back Jefte was sent off in the second leg of their qualifying tie against Kyiv, so is suspended for Thursday's trip to Sweden. His absence poses a conundrum for Gers' head coach Philippe Clement, who is also without left-sided Turkish defender Ridvan Yilmaz due to injury.
However, versatile defensive duo Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo are reasonable options to plug the gap and if Rangers can operate from a solid defensive base, they will fancy their chances of opening their European bid with victory.
Malmo are firmly on course to win the Swedish title and have won ten of their 11 home league fixtures this term, but their limitations were exposed in the third round of Champions League qualifying when they were beaten 2-0 in both legs by Czech champions Sparta Prague.
A place in the Europa League is a nice consolation prize but Malmo's most recent experience of the competition was overwhelmingly negative.
The Swedes were one of just two teams alongside Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia to lose all six matches in the 2022-23 group stage, although Malmo will hope to fare better in this season's revamped competition, in which their eight league fixtures are spread out over the next four months.
However, they appear to be among the weaker sides taking part and may succumb to a Rangers outfit eager to take a positive first step on another potential Europa League adventure.

Malmo have lost their last six Europa League matches.
