Galatasaray vs Tottenham predictions

Tottenham are living up to their status as ante-post favourites for the Europa League but Thursday's hosts Galatasaray are favourites to end their perfect start to the continental campaign.

Spurs, along with Lazio and Anderlecht, have won their first three matches in the revamped competition, beating Qarabag 3-0, Ferencvaros 2-1 and AZ Alkmaar 1-0.

They had to dig deep for their opening victory over Qarabag as centre-back Radu Dragusin was sent off in the seventh minute and Ange Postecoglou is missing first-choice defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero for the trip to Turkey.

Galatasaray have been well supported in the match betting despite Tottenham's impressive 4-1 Premier League victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Like Spurs, Gala look stronger going forward than they are at the back and last season they suffered a 6-4 aggregate defeat to Sparta Prague in the Europa League playoff round.

That followed an entertaining Champions League group-stage campaign in which Galatasaray won 3-2 at Manchester United and drew 3-3 in the return fixture and all three of their Europa League games this term have produced over 3.5 goals.

They beat PAOK Salonika 3-1 and Elfsborg 4-3 at home, either side of a 2-2 draw away to Rigas, so Tottenham's forwards should be confident of contributing to the goal tally in Istanbul.

However, Gala have made a cracking start to the Super Lig season, taking 28 points from a possible 30, and they were good value for a 2-1 home win over Besiktas last time out, racking up 20 attempts at goal.

Former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez and classy striker Victor Osimhen scored against Besiktas and Gala have had ten days to prepare for their clash with Spurs.

The Lilywhites, in contrast, have played twice since their hosts were last in action, beating Manchester City 2-1 in the EFL Cup before Sunday's second-half comeback against Villa.

While Postecoglou is short of defensive options, he has an array of attacking talent available. Spurs have scored 16 goals in their last six league matches, including 4-1 wins over West Ham and Villa and a dramatic 3-2 loss at Brighton, so a lively contest is expected in Turkey.

Key stat

Galatasaray's last five Europa League matches have all featured over 3.5 goals.
