West Brom vs Coventry predictions

West Brom are on a remarkable run of ten draws from their last 11 games as they welcome Coventry to the Hawthorns on Wednesday evening.

The Baggies are well on the way to breaking the Championship record for most stalemates but remain firmly in the playoff race despite winning only six of their 19 games.

Before the midweek slate only the top three had conceded fewer goals than Carlos Corberan’s men and they face a Coventry side who have had new life injected into their season with the arrival of Frank Lampard as manager.

The Sky Blues’ underlying numbers have been solid for some time - only Leeds and Middlesbrough went into this week’s games with a better expected goal difference than Coventry’s +8.4 - but they found themselves lingering near the drop zone under Mark Robins thanks in part to a combination of bad finishing and goalkeeping.

The visitors picked up just their fifth win of the campaign against Millwall at the weekend and could now kick on in an extremely congested middle section of the second tier.

One player who looks likely to benefit from Lampard’s arrival is Tatsuhiro Sakamoto.

After struggling to hold down a first-team place under Robins, the Japanese winger has started both games of the Lampard reign, registering an assist in the 2-2 draw against Cardiff.

Sakamoto had seven goals and two assists in 20 starts last season and looks a big candidate to recapture that form under the new boss. He could be the Coventry player to unlock a West Brom defence that has proved tough to break down.
