Sunderland vs Portsmouth predictions

One of the best home teams in the Championship host one of the worst away teams in the division when Portsmouth make the long journey to Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.

The Black Cats are one of just two teams unbeaten at home this term, winning eight and drawing four of their 12 games at the Stadium of Light.

By contrast Pompey have won just one of their 12 road trips and have been particularly poor on their travels recently, taking just two points from the last 21 available.

Sunderland have found themselves in the thick of the Championship promotion race as their youthful squad have exceeded expectations under Regis Le Bris.

Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson was the hero last time out as he saved a Kieffer Moore penalty en route to a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United.

Despite their injury issues, Le Bris’s men have continued to catch the eye and should be too strong for this Pompey side.

The visitors picked up a shock 4-0 win over Swansea on Wednesday but that was at Fratton Park and they have been much less effective on their travels.

Avoiding relegation is the primary aim for this team and they  have games in hand on their rivals in the battle against the drop.

Sunderland's attacking strengths are likely to prove too much but injuries in defensive areas have made the Black Cats vulnerable at the back and Pompey should be able to get on the scoresheet.
