Wednesday's Championship predictions

Neil Harris announced on Tuesday that he will step down as Millwall manager after Saturday’s game against Middlesbrough, so there could be a strange atmosphere at the Den when the Lions welcome Sheffield United to south London on Wednesday night.

The Blades entered the midweek round of fixtures top of the Championship standings, having lost just two of their 19 league matches.

A solid defence which has been breached only 11 times has underpinned the Blades' rise to the summit and they head for the capital on an eight-match unbeaten run.

Chris Wilder’s men have won six times in that spell and are fancied to get the better of a Millwall side who have struggled in front of goal, netting just 20 times in 19 fixtures.

The Lions have shared the spoils in three of their last four games so bettors are advised to take the stalemate out of the equation and back the Blades in the draw-no-bet market.

Hull's new manager Ruben Selles watched on from the stands as the Tigers were beaten 1-0 by Blackburn at the weekend and there is a chance it could be just as tight when he takes to the City dugout for the first time against Watford.

The Tigers are the lowest scorers in the second tier, scoring just 17 in 19 outings, and are still beset by injuries, especially in forward positions.

Watford’s recent matches have also been low-scoring – four of their last five games have featured no more than two goals – and they have struggled on the road this season, winning just two of their nine road trips.

Selles’s priority will be to keep things tight and backing under 2.5 goals looks a sensible approach in East Yorkshire.
