Watford vs QPR predictions

Second-bottom QPR have gone back to basics in an effort to climb away from the Championship danger zone and their cautious approach could contribute to a low-scoring outcome when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Hoops registered their second league win of the season on Wednesday when grinding out a 2-0 victory at fellow strugglers Cardiff.

It was a slightly fortunate success given the general dominance of Cardiff, who won the shot count 24-10, but QPR were rewarded for a dogged display as they kept a third clean sheet in six matches.

The result lifted some of the pressure on QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes but the need to stay focused is obvious with the Londoners positioned two points away from safety.

Cifuentes is likely to pursue similar tactics against Watford by asking his players to defend deep and make the most of moments from counter-attacks and set-pieces, and his approach could present a tricky challenge to the Hornets, who were far from their fluent best when winning 1-0 at home to Bristol City on Tuesday.

Watford's midweek win took their home points tally to 22 from a possible 24 but it came thanks to a superb strike from right wing-back Ryan Andrews, which was their only shot on target.

Tom Cleverley's team struggled for long periods against the Robins with attackers Kwadwo Baah and Vakoun Bayo looking out of sorts.

Their home record commands respect but another tight game is on the cards, making under 2.5 goals a worthwhile wager at a shade of odds-on.
