Watford vs Oxford predictions

Watford succumbed to a drab 1-0 defeat at Swansea on Tuesday but they have been piling up the points at Vicarage Road and can maintain their unbeaten home record with a routine success over Oxford.

It is too early to determine whether Watford can maintain a presence in the promotion race although their early-season home form is keeping them in the conversation for now.

Tom Cleverley's side have taken 16 points on home soil and three of their five Hertfordshire successes have come against teams inside the top ten.

They are an attack-minded team with an impressive xG (expected goals) of 21.88 although their xG against stands at a whopping 27.21 which is second only to struggling Plymouth.

Watford's lack of defensive resilience has contributed to six losses from eight Championship away games but it hasn't hurt them in Hertfordshire where they have played on the front foot more often than not.

And the Hornets are highly likely to have the lion's share of possession and chances against Oxford, who are struggling to be competitive on their travels.

Des Buckingham's side moved on to 17 points with Tuesday's hard-fought 1-0 success at home to Hull which featured plenty of dogged defending and spells of good football as they grew into the game.

But it has been a different story on their travels with the Yellows struggling to cope with the opposition's general dominance.

Oxford dug out a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth last month but they have conceded two goals or more in each of their other five Championship away games and are likely to be stung by the Hornets.
