Stoke vs Hull predictions

Stoke have got off to a mixed start in the Championship and they made a sudden managerial change this week with Narcis Pelach replacing Steven Schumacher in the Potters dugout.

Pelach begins his tenure with a home clash against struggling Hull on Friday night and the Spaniard could make the best possible start.

After ending last season with three successive victories, Stoke would have hoped to stay on the winning trail. Instead, they have taken six points from their first five games and were badly off the pace in a 1-0 defeat at Oxford on Saturday.

The Stoke board clearly felt they needed to act following the poor performance at the Kassam Stadium and 48 hours later they had relieved Schumacher of his duties.

Former Potters centre-back Ryan Shawcross stood in as caretaker boss for Tuesday's EFL Cup third-round tie with Fleetwood, who the Potters edged past 2-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the bet365 Stadium.

But the task of picking a team to play Hull falls to former Norwich coach Pelach and he inherits a team who have scored just three league goals this term.

Pelach will be particularly anxious to get the best out of talented Leicester loanee Tom Cannon, who made his first start of the season at Oxford and should be edging closer to full fitness.

Stoke have plenty of scope for improvement but they already look in better shape than Hull.

The Tigers have not won a competitive match since April and underwent a summer of huge change with 15 new players arriving at the MKM Stadium and Tim Walter replacing Liam Rosenior in the dugout.

Walter wants his team to play possession-based football but Hull are the league's second-lowest scorers, with two goals from five games, and appear vulnerable at the back.

The Tigers' troubles continued with a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United last Friday and things may get worse before they get better.
