Sheffield United vs Sunderland predictions

Sheffield United enjoyed an evening at the Championship summit following Tuesday's resounding 3-0 win over Oxford and they can take back top spot from Leeds with victory over promotion rivals Sunderland at Bramall Lane.

The Blades are excelling at their South Yorkshire fortress, where they have reeled off seven successive home wins, but they can also be satisfied with their general progress, having taken 16 points from their last six matches.

Injuries to key midfielder Ollie Arblaster and first-choice striker Kieffer Moore have been a blow for Chris Wilder's men, but their standards remain high and belief is growing in their quest to restore top-flight status at the first attempt.

While Sheffield United are looking resilient and relentless, fourth-placed Sunderland are starting to show signs of fragility.

The Black Cats are unbeaten in ten games but they have drawn the last five and three of those have been against teams who occupy positions in the bottom eight.

The Mackems played well in Tuesday's goalless draw at home to West Brom – they won the shot count 18-2 – but the best chance fell to their injury-hit opponents, who saw Lewis Dobbin's late effort cleared off the line.

Sunderland were boosted by the return of influential trio Patrick Roberts, Trai Hume and Jobe Bellingham after suspension against the Baggies, but they were still nowhere near at full-strength and high-quality left-back Dennis Cirkin and powerful winger Romaine Mundle remain on the sidelines.

The Black Cats have improved under Regis le Bris, who has helped them amass seven points more than they did at the same stage of last season. However, they are not playing with the same fluency as earlier in the campaign and may struggle to cope with the confident Blades.
