Salford vs MK Dons predictions

Despite bringing in a host of big names this summer, Salford are still searching for their first win of the season.

New arrivals Cole Stockton and Ben Woodburn are yet to settle and manager Karl Robinson, whose win-rate with the Ammies now stands at a lowly 26.9 per cent since being appointed in January, may come under pressure if his side fail to beat MK Dons on Monday night.

Like their hosts, the Dons have also endured a difficult start to the campaign. A heavy 5-0 League Cup defeat to Championship club Watford was sandwiched between league losses to Bradford and Colchester, although Mike Williamson's men seemed to have turned a corner last time out, comfortably beating Carlisle 3-0.

Beaten in the playoff semi-finals by Crawley last term, many pundits expected Milton Keynes to challenge for the League Two title this time around but a slow start has tempered enthusiasm.

However, a win at the Peninsula Stadium on Monday could have ante-post backers of the Dons feeling more confident again.

History and recent form augurs well for the visitors, too. They did the double over the Ammies last season, scoring seven goals in the process, while Salford have won only one of their last ten home matches and have lost their three home games this season without scoring.

The Ammies have lost seven of their last 11 games and have shown little this term to suggest that record will resolve itself any time soon. A point at Chesterfield could be seen as a step in the right direction, but they were fortunate to share the spoils with the Spireites, losing the shot count 15-6 and the corner count 9-1, and they could be set for another setback against the improving Dons.

Defensive cog Curtis Tilt was sent off in that stalemate and his replacement, an ageing James Chester, could struggle to keep lively MK Dons striker Callum Hendry quiet.

Hendry, who scored nine in 27 League Two games for Salford last term, has taken two shots in each of his league appearances this term and after netting against Carlisle last weekend, could have the momentum to hurt his former employers.

Key stat

Salford have lost seven of their last 11 games and five of their last six at home.

Salford vs MK Dons team news

Salford
Ossama Ashley, Matthew Lund and Ryan Watson are fit enough to feature but the game will come too soon for Liam Shephard. Curtis Tilt is suspended and Kevin Berkoe remains injured.

MK Dons
Midfielder Liam Kelly is available but Jonathan Leko and Matt Dennis are still sidelined and Luke Offord is a doubt after suffering a knock against Carlisle last time out.

Subs: Young, Dackers, Fornah, Watson, Taylor, Austerfield, Chesters

MK Dons (3-4-2-1): McGill; Sherring, Tucker, Maguire; Nemane, Lemonheigh-Evans, Carroll, Tomlinson; Wearne, Gilbey; Hendry
