Plymouth vs Portsmouth predictions

Portsmouth follow a tough trip north to take on Hull with another thankless trek, this time to the south west to face Plymouth, and it's a task they may not relish.

Boasting the joint-worst away defence in the Championship, John Mousinho has been unable to patch up holes at the back, not helped by loads of injuries.

They actually played pretty well in the 1-1 draw at Hull at the weekend but it's yet another goal conceded on their travels, and only Plymouth allow more shots than they do in away games.

And Pompey are well aware of the threat Argyle possess at Home Park in front of their own fans.

Looking at the team changes made by Wayne Rooney for the 3-0 loss to Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday it seems clear that this game is his priority.

And you can understand why given Plymouth are so strong at home, where they boast a better record than top-half sides West Brom and Norwich. They have picked up 11 points at home - just one away - and are one of only two sides to have beaten Sunderland this season.

They carve out more chances at home than Sunderland, Burnley or Norwich do at their places and rarely take any backwards steps.

And while their away form is so dire they are acutely aware of the importance of a match such as this against the division's bottom side.

Key stat

Plymouth have won 11 of their 12 points this season at Home Park.
