Plymouth vs Luton predictions

Plymouth raised a few eyebrows when they handed Wayne Rooney his fourth crack at management but they have steadied themselves after a poor start to the season and can take at least a point against Luton at Home Park.

Rooney has found football management a fair bit tougher than his playing days.

The 38-year-old presided over Derby's relegation from the Championship in 2021-22 and was sacked by Birmingham in January this year after less than three months in charge of the Midlands club.

Rooney's Plymouth tenure got off to the worst possible start with a 4-0 loss at Sheffield Wednesday on the opening weekend of the season, but there has been noticeable improvement from the Pilgrims in recent weeks and they approach the Luton game knowing that a victory will lift them at least as high as 14th in the table.

Argyle's survival last season was heavily dependent on home results.

Plymouth amassed 35 home points, the second highest total among bottom-half teams, and they gave their fans another memorable experience two weeks ago by winning 3-2 at home to highflying Sunderland.

Rooney's side are playing some decent football and they will be ready for a stiff test against Luton, who recovered from a slow start by securing victories at Millwall and at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the Hatters were far from convincing on both occasions and are not living up to their pre-season billing.

Luton were winless in 12 away games before their dogged triumph over Millwall and they look opposable on their tricky trip to Devon.
