Oxford vs West Brom predictions

After making a near-perfect start to the Championship season, taking 16 points from their opening six games, West Brom would have been delighted to welcome the international break.

The Baggies failed to win any of their final three matches before the two-week hiatus, suffering defeats at Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough prior to a goalless draw at home to Millwall.

It's entirely likely that West Brom capitalised on a soft early schedule as all five of their league wins this season have come against teams that currently find themselves no higher than 11th in the table.

Albion coach Carlos Corberan is doing an excellent job with the available resources but there is little incentive in backing them at a shade of odds-against away to Oxford, who have adapted well to life in the Championship.

United secured promotion from League One last season via the playoffs but they have recruited shrewdly under manager Des Buckingham and sit tenth after nine games, collecting 12 points.

That promising start has largely been down to their performances at home, where they remain unbeaten after four matches following victories over Norwich, Preston and Stoke, and a goalless draw with title-targeting Burnley.

Oxford were able to frustrate the third-placed Clarets, limiting them to only one shot on target, and keeping Baggies hotshot Josh Maja quiet would go a long way to picking up another positive result at the Kassam Stadium.

Maja has scored seven of West Brom's 12 league goals this season but the Baggies have had only seven shots on target across their last three matches and the chances are not flowing like you'd expect for a team riding high in the early-season standings.

Key stat

Oxford have lost only two of their last 16 home games.
