Middlesbrough vs Sunderland predictions

There will be plenty riding on this Tees-Wear derby as playoff-chasing Middlesbrough host a Sunderland side trying to keep on the coattails of the Championship's automatic promotion hopefuls.

Boro's form has dipped over recent weeks, as they have won only one of their last four league fixtures, a run that has contributed to them slipping out of the top six.

A mounting injury list has not helped head coach Michael Carrick, who will be without as many as ten first-teamers for this clash, including forward Emmanuel Latte Lath, who may well have played his last game for the club.

Sunderland, meanwhile, remain very much in the automatic promotion hunt and can move to within three points of the top two with a victory.

Regis Le Bris has seen his side lose only one of their last 11 league games and although they have found road wins harder to come by than home successes, they still boast the third-best away record in the division, most recently winning away at Derby.

The Black Cats have also already beaten Boro once this season - Chris Rigg's first-half goal clinching a 1-0 victory during September's reverse meeting at the Stadium of Light - and with 11 points separating the sides in the standings, they will fancy their chances of completing the league double.

Sunderland certainly offer better value to win this game, although they have not triumphed at the Riverside since February 2012, so siding with the Black Cats in the draw-no-bet market could be the best play.

Key stat

Sunderland have lost just one of their last 11 Championship games.

Middlesbrough vs Sunderland team news

Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough have a lengthy injury list to contend with, including goalkeepers Sol Brynn (shoulder) and Seny Dieng (Achilles), so Mark Travers should make his debut between the sticks after joining on loan from Bournemouth.

Sunderland
Sunderland will be without Tom Watson (knee), Niall Huggins (knee), Romaine Mundle (hamstring), Aji Alese and Alan Browne (both broken legs).
