Leeds vs Sheffield United predictions

Championship highflyers Sheffield United are the only remaining unbeaten team across the EFL but their special status could be removed by a Yorkshire derby loss to Leeds at Elland Road.

The second-tier promotion race is tight with four points covering the top eight teams but fifth-placed Leeds and second-placed Sheffield United are first and second in the title betting and both expect to be major players in the battle for a top-two finish.

Either could finish the evening at the Championship summit but Leeds feel they should be in an even better position after two points were chucked away in the closing moments of a 2-2 draw at Sunderland last time out.

The Whites had appeared to be cruising to victory away to the league leaders until goalkeeper Illan Meslier committed an extraordinary error by allowing Allan Browne's lofted ball to slip past him and nestle into the back of the net.

Leeds players were understandably distraught but, after absorbing the blow, they can look back with pride on their performance.

Daniel Farke's side went to Sunderland without injured first-choice quartet Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Dan James and Manor Solomon but they played well and should have won.

Two weeks on they are boosted by the return from injury of James and Solomon and they look ready for another stern test.

Sheffield United have started the season impressively and would be top without their two-point deduction.

However, the Blades' short trip to Leeds is tougher than anything they have faced in the first nine games and it may result in their first setback of the Championship campaign.
