Derby vs Norwich predictions

Norwich moved into the top half of the Championship standings with a 4-1 rout of Watford last weekend and they can make further progress with victory at Derby on Saturday.

Moving on from an unsuccessful playoff campaign is never easy and Norwich have chosen to do so with a new man in the dugout.

Danish head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup replaced David Wagner at the helm in the summer and he got off to a shaky start with only two points taken from his first three games in charge.

However, the Canaries have won two of their last three Championship fixtures and their three-goal home success over Watford was by far the best performance of Thorup's tenure to date.

Norwich lost 11 league games on the road last season but they were impressive 1-0 winners at Coventry last month and have every chance of inflicting Derby's first home defeat of the campaign.

Derby have a clear priority to consolidate their Championship status following promotion and they are off to a reasonable start with three wins – all of which have come at home – and three defeats.

But the underlying statistics are more concerning for the Rams, whose 38 per cent average share of possession is the lowest in the division and they have registered just 56 shots compared to 83 allowed.

Derby deliberately favour a deep defensive line to give their centre-backs extra protection against the more mobile forwards they are facing at a higher level.

It has worked for them at Pride Park so far this season but Norwich could buck the trend and record their third win in four league outings.

Key stat
