Derby vs Portsmouth predictions
Portsmouth climbed out of the Championship relegation zone with Tuesday's 0-0 draw at home to Norwich and they can add another precious point by sharing the spoils with fellow strugglers Derby at Pride Park.
Getting used to second-tier football was always going to be a challenge for Portsmouth, who are playing at the level for the first time since 2012.
And there were some worrying early signs for John Mousinho's side, who were second from bottom and winless after nine matches.
A spate of injuries made the transition especially difficult and none of the absences were more significant than centre-forward Colby Bishop, who was diagnosed with a heart condition in the early stages of pre-season.
Bishop had surgery in August and was sorely missed as Portsmouth struggled to find a replacement at the tip of their attack, but he recovered sooner than expected and made a triumphant return last month by coming off the bench to score a penalty in a 3-1 home victory over Preston.
Bishop started the next three games and his influence was key as Pompey put together a four-game unbeaten run.
In addition to posing more of an attacking threat, Portsmouth kept back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season and their improved defending gives them every chance of frustrating Derby, who are without a win in six matches.
Derby have put 21 points on the board, which is a reasonable effort for a newly-promoted side, and they were delighted to come away with a 0-0 draw from Tuesday's difficult trip to Burnley.
However, the most recent of the Rams' four home wins - a 2-0 success over QPR - was more than two months ago, and there are no guarantees of them swiftly ending their sticky spell.
Paul Warne's side have scored 11 of their 22 goals from set-pieces, but they have struggled from open play and their lack of attacking flair could suit Pompey, who have every chance of posting their ninth draw of the season.
