Chesterfield vs Notts County predictions

Chesterfield and Notts County get set for their first meeting since that action-packed National League playoff final at Wembley two seasons ago and it could be goals galore once again as the pair bid to get their League Two campaigns back on track.

County prevailed on penalties to secure promotion at Chesterfield's expense in May 2023 after a thrilling 2-2 draw and that means both teams have scored in their last six showdowns.

The Spireites went one step better last season, winning the National League title at a canter having amassed 98 points, and these teams will harness promotion ambitions in League Two.

Chesterfield were pre-season title favourites but, while time is still on their side, they have won only three of their opening ten outings.

The Magpies have made a more convincing start and are fifth in the early-season standings, although one win in four has somewhat stalled their progression.

Chesterfield remain unbeaten in five home league outings but four of those fixtures have ended in draws and both teams have netted on each occasion.

Back-to-back 2-2 draws with Bromley and leaders Walsall highlight their attacking intent, but two clean sheets in ten also showcases a defensive vulnerability.

County, armed with the services of Alassana Jatta and David McGoldrick, have the firepower to expose those frailties, but keeping Chesterfield at bay will be the concern.

Paul Cook's hosts have netted 17 times in ten league games, the same tally as the Magpies, and in James Berry, Will Grigg and Dilan Kumar Markanday, they also have attacking quality in abundance.

So, with both teams having scored in three of the visitors' last four away league games, it is hard to see anything other than fireworks taking place at the SMH Group Stadium.

Key stat

Both teams have scored in Chesterfield's last eight competitive home games.
