Blackpool vs Wigan predictions

Blackpool and Wigan are languishing in the bottom third of League One and their clash at Bloomfield Road on Monday could be a cagey affair.

Only two points separate the Tangerines and the Latics, who are 18th and 19th respectively, and both head into this contest in poor form.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce is on compassionate leave and has missed his team's last two matches, the latest of which finished in a 5-1 defeat to Peterborough.

Bruce's assistant Steve Agnew is likely to be in the dugout again on Monday night but he is faced with the challenge of ending a three-game losing streak.

Fortunately for the hosts, the visitors have also been pretty abject, losing back-to-back league fixtures against Cambridge and Mansfield, so it is hard to make a case for either side.

Despite their precarious position in the table, Wigan bizarrely boast the best defence in League One with just nine goals conceded in 12 matches.

It has indeed been their wastefulness at the other end of the pitch which has cost them and goals could be at a premium in this match.

Blackpool have fared a little better in front of goal than Wigan this term but the Tangerines have netted only three times in their last four games and they could struggle against a pretty robust defence.

A low-scoring contest looks on the cards at Bloomfield Road and the best betting angle could be under 1.5 goals, which has happened in four of Wigan's last seven matches.

Key stat

Wigan's League One fixtures have averaged just 1.58 goals per game this season.
