Tottenham vs Manchester United predictions

Erik ten Hag won the EFL Cup in his first season as Manchester United manager and Ruben Amorim will be hoping to emulate his predecessor's feat.

United's quarter-final at Tottenham is their third EFL Cup tie of the season and all three have come under different managers.

Ten Hag was still in charge when they thrashed League One Barnsley 7-0 in September before interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy led the Red Devils to a 5-2 victory over Leicester at the end of October.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho scored five of United's 12 goals in those two routs but Amorim made the eye-catching decision to omit the forwards from his matchday squad for Sunday's Premier League derby at Manchester City.

Late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo gave his side a dramatic 2-1 win against their struggling rivals and there should be more entertainment when they visit Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou's men are renowned for blowing hot and cold. After a five-match winless streak, including a 4-3 home defeat to Chelsea in the league, they scored four goals in the first 25 minutes of Sunday's fixture at bottom club Southampton, going on to win 5-0.

Spurs have played a big role in Manchester City's current crisis, beating them 2-1 in the EFL Cup fourth round before last month's 4-0 league win at the Etihad Stadium.

However, they have also suffered top-flight defeats to Crystal Palace, Ipswich and Bournemouth in the past couple of months while their last three Europa League fixtures yielded a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray and score draws with Roma and Rangers.

Postecoglou's gung-ho attacking approach is one factor behind Tottenham's inconsistency but they have also been severely hampered by defensive injuries.

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster, full-back Djed Spence and emergency centre-back Archie Gray may be pressed into service again for the cup clash with United and a 2-2 correct score is worth chancing at a big price.

That was the scoreline in Tottenham's last Europa League home game against Roma while United have drawn five of their last nine away fixtures.

They had to come from behind to claim 2-1 wins at City and Viktoria Plzen on their last two road trips and a penalty shootout may be required to separate these unreliable rivals.

Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski scored in September's 3-0 league win at Old Trafford and he can continue his hot streak in front of goal, having notched in his last three appearances against Chelsea, Rangers and Southampton.

Manchester United have drawn five of their last nine away games in all competitions
