EFL Cup and League One predictions

Leicester are still searching for their first victory of the Premier League season, but the Foxes eased past Tranmere 4-0 in the second round of the EFL Cup and can repeat the trick against another League Two club, Walsall, on Tuesday.

Top-flight survival is Leicester's undoubted target this season but Steve Cooper selected a strong team against Tranmere and was rewarded with a convincing performance and result.

Tranmere struggled to bridge the three-division gap and it could be a similar story for Walsall, who are through to the third round for the first time in nine years.

The Saddlers are third in League Two and have ousted a pair of League One teams in Exeter and Huddersfield to reach this stage. However, a visit from Premier League Leicester will be their toughest assignment of the season by some distance and they could be swept aside.

Back-to-back away wins at Reading and Stockport have helped Leyton Orient climb out of the League One drop zone and the O's can put their first home points on the board by defeating Peterborough.

Orient endured a tough opening schedule and suffered single-goal defeats to Birmingham, Bolton and Charlton, three sides aiming to be in the promotion hunt, in their first three league outings.

But the Londoners were superb in their 4-1 win at Stockport on Saturday and they can see off a Peterborough side struggling for consistency.

Tenth-placed Posh have not kept a clean sheet this season and their unreliable defence may let them down once more at Brisbane Road.

Wigan are also promotion hopefuls in League One and they can climb into the top half with a home win over Stevenage.

The Latics have kept back-to-back clean sheets and may need only one goal to see off 15th-placed Stevenage, who have drawn a blank in three of their last four fixtures.
